At Little Earth, the outdoor environment is not just a playground. We have a strong enviro-nature programme and are busy developing a beautiful naturalised outdoor environment. It is a place where our children have the opportunity to develop a relationship with the natural world, a place where they create their memories and their early childhood.
Rather then a standard play environment made of rubber, steel, plastic and concrete we are using natural elements from our local beach and forest to create a magical space for physical activities. We have gathered driftwood to use as balancing, climbing and sitting areas. Rocks and boulders are used as stepping stones. Off cuts recycled from the local railway have been placed as jumping poles. By using local elements, the children are exposed to their local natural environment. Unlike rubber, steel and plastic climbing structures, our natural climbing and balancing elements change with the seasons as the sun, rain and wind play their role and provide ever changing textures and challenges to the children.
